Wassell rebuild

I've started a total rebuild of a Wassell motorbike with a Sachs 125/6b engine in it and thought my experiences might help any one else who might be thinking of undertaking a similar task. Or perhaps you have already gone through a rebuild and could provide helpful information for others.

I've had a good look around the internet for other sites. The best I've come across so far is the Penton Owners Group (POG) http://www.pentonusa.org They have been very friendly and helpful every time I have posted a question on their message board.

If you know of any other sites or you have the name of suppliers (uk if possible) for hard to find spares please let me know.

Hi, I live in the UK and have a Wassell Antelope too - you're not alone! :o)

I have most of the bike, needs cables, bit of wiring etc to make it a runner (my first priority), then I'll tidy it up later. Only cost me a tenner originally, though I've spent c. £150 on it since.

I have an original Wassell sales brochure for the bike, Sachs engine manual and Clymer workshop manual covering some makes this engine was fitted to, also MP manual for the forks with diagrams and parts lists.

MP = Metal Profiles, they copied the Cerianis of the 60s, the leading design at the time, stil available from Greeves in Chelmsford but around £500, though they are CNC machined now.

Original shocks were Girlings, Hagon bought the tooling etc for those and will make to orignial pattern or your spec - c. £100.

Mine had remains of an Amal carb with it, they're now based at Cranleigh and can supply carbs for older models, however, it had a Bing when it left the Wassell factory.

Parts - I think the US dealers from the Penton page are probably the best bet, though I'm just about to start down this route. Limited stuff is available in teh UK tho.

I have some other info too, needs centralising first just for my own sanity!

I'm happy to pass on photocopy of the manuals etc if we can get in touch - something to sort out?

Based in southeast on Surrey/hants border, if that helps.

Hi John, I've made a fair bit of prgress on mine since my original post. It's not easy to make non-public contact to Bloggers on this site otherwise I'd have done so, maybe I can sort out an email I don't mind posting - will get back to you.

Otherwise, I'll start my own blog on this site, and we can compare rebuild schedules! (jeez, how sad is that??!)

Offer of manuals etc still stands, I also have some spare first-oversize piston rings available if that will help, can maybe loan some special tools if you're local.

Cheers,
Adam
